Selected physiotherapeutic aspects in patients with whiplash disability - systematic review
Doušková, Aneta ; Pavlů, Dagmar (advisor) ; Stupková, Michaela (referee)
The work is processed in the form of a systematic research. It is about issues related to whiplash syndrome, such as etiology, diagnosis and therapy. The aim of the systematic literature research was to find out what physiotherapeutic procedures have been used for the last five years in the treatment of whiplash syndrome and which procedure appears to be the most effective in reducing pain and improving range of motion. The studies were searched in the following databases: EBSCOhost, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus and Springer. The corresponding studies were searched using keywords which were then sorted using the established criteria. In the final count, 10 studies were identified. Five studies out of ten examined the effect of the procedure of therapy on behavioral intervention in combination with the specific exercise and individual needs of the individual. This therapy focuses as much as possible on the needs and goals of the individual. In the last five years, the effect of distance therapy has been studied in the treatment of whiplash syndrome again with an emphasis on the needs of a particular person. More variables need to be taken to assess the effectiveness of approaches and further studies on therapy of whiplash syndrome would be needed to accurately determine the effect. Keywords...
Evaluation of postural stability in subjects after whiplash injury
Bureš, Jiří ; Stupková, Michaela (advisor) ; Satrapová, Lenka (referee)
Title: Evaluation of postural stability in subjects after whiplash injury Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to assess the impact of whiplash injury on postural stability of the subjects who sustained this injury and, subsequently, to compare the results with a group of healthy subjects. Methods: In this pilot study, 16 subjects forming an experimental and a control group were involved. The experimental group consisted of 8 probands after whiplash injury, about 3-5 months after sustaining the injury. The average age of this group was 29.4 years. The control group consisted of 8 healthy probands with average age 28.8 years. All probands were free of neurological diseases, previous serious trauma and orthopedic surgeries in the region of lower extremities or torso, which might significantly affect the results of postural stability measurements. To evaluate postural stability, the device Smart EquiTest System by Neurocom was used and the data obtained were subsequently processed using the Neurocom Balance Manager Software programme. The results of both groups were statistically evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test of normality and then compared using the paired t-test or the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results of this thesis point out that the persons who sustained whiplash injury show worse...

Šmahelová, Eva ; Molnár, Petr (advisor) ; Hamarová, Zuzana (referee)
Author: Eva Šmahelová Institution: Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in Hradec Králové Title of bachelor's thesis: Possibilities of Physiotherapy in Whiplash Injury Syndrome Supervisor: Mgr. Petr Molnár Number of pages: 68 Number of attachments: 3 Year of vindication: 2012 Key words: whiplash injury, injury of cervical spine, physiotherapy of whiplash injury, cervical spine. The Bachelor's thesis completes available knowledge about large problems of whiplash injury and about the abilities of physiotherapy within this problem. In the general part there is anatomy and kineziology of the spinal column aimed at the neck area and classification of injury of the neck spinal column. The special part summarizes the available information about whiplash injury (definition, incidention, mechanism of arise etc.) and refers to possible ways of therapy. The discussion is about the special consideration on the theme of the problems of whiplash and completes gained knowledge in the Bachelor's thesis.
